The 2025 Grammys Were Full of Fashion Moments

Lady Gaga’s full-length black gown, designed by Samuel Lewis, was in character for her — edgy and out-there. Bleached brows and black micro bangs, while not my personal favorite, upped the severity of the look. The star of the show, though, was a Tiffany & Co. necklace. Well-done, simple black nails and silver rings brought everything together, and an effortless makeup look allowed the outfit to shine.
Olivia Rodrigo’s carpet look consisted of a black vintage Versace dress, complete with a keyhole cutout and slits in the sides. Overall, the dress looked gorgeous and the texture at the hem gave it some more character. Soft curls and simple makeup, including a gentle eyeliner wing, create a perfect classy look that differs from Rodrigo’s often edgy style.
Taylor Swift returned to her roots this year. A custom, sparkly, red Vivienne Westwood dress offered gorgeous draping near the neckline, along with a dangly chain with a “T” on it — adding a layer of sensuality to the outfit. Red earrings, nails and approximately 5-inch heels brought the color scheme together. For her makeup, Swift once again pulled off her iconic red lip and cat eyeliner.
Miley Cyrus’ black Saint Laurent dress showed off all her tattoos and came with a stunning diamond-shaped cutout. However, the dress’s center seam looked slightly off, detracting from the rest, along with the choppiness of what could’ve been layers or curtain bangs. The makeup was flattering, with a bronze cut crease and strong contour.
Kelsea Ballerini’s hair and makeup stunned on the carpet. Her makeup was subtle and the perfect arrangement of her hair was reminiscent of ‘20s finger waves. The Tamara Ralph dress, with an unflattering cone shape and a beaded texture, and shoes were not my favorite. The dress, however, created a cohesive ‘20s theme and the satin white overwear added an element of sultriness and contrast to it all.
Chrissy Teigen’s dress wasn’t my favorite, with the way the stripey fabric moved downward. The shape of the bodice and mermaid-style tail were gorgeous. A mauve, plain nail complimented her warm skin tone and the circular, black earrings gave the whole ensemble a very “Black Swan” feel to it.
Chrissy Teigen’s husband, John Legend, posed next to her on the red carpet in a gray suit. It’s simple and classy. His tie looks a little wonky, but the texturing on the suit is nice and he’s well groomed.
Gracie Abrams in Chanel was one of the most notable looks of the night. The veil, combined with the draping of the sleeves, is heavenly and the flower in the center is delicate, despite its size. The length of the dress, falling slightly above her ankle, was awkward to me. The darkness of her hair and eye makeup contrast beautifully with the rest of the ensemble.
I’ll address both Benson Boone’s red carpet look and his infamous performance attire. On the red carpet, he wore a timeless black Dolce & Gabbana suit. It’s nothing extraordinary, but I can appreciate the variation in fabrics on the suit and the number of buttons left undone, which a long pendant drew attention to. He’s well-groomed with his signature moustache and his curls look great.
For his performance, he wore a sparkly, sky blue jumpsuit. As he said on his Instagram story later that night, it was definitely “aggressively restricting in certain areas,” but I wouldn’t have noticed had it not been for what everyone is calling the “aggressive crotch-grab” at the end of his performance. He looks like a figure skater mixed with a human Ken doll in it and it’s perfectly on brand given the rest of what he has worn to award shows.
Cardi B arrived in a Roberto Cavalli dress that combined sequined tiger stripes and feathers. In any other context, it could’ve been heinous, but it’s so characteristically Cardi and she pulls it off really well. The dress is bodycon down to the knees, low-cut, with a romantic and intentional off-the-shoulder sleeve. Combined with ‘20s style waves and a face full of only Danessa Myricks makeup, it’s a very “modern flapper” type of look.
SZA ditched the red carpet before the show, which is a shame, given that her outfit was worth many photos. Romantic, thin, drapey fabric was in this year, as her dress was like Abrams if it was a bit more Y2K. The simplicity of her makeup, which included a gorgeous pink lip, allowed the dress and her gorgeous red hair to shine through. A notable detail is her heels, which featured a fishbone motif. Unusual and seemingly incohesive with the rest of the outfit, but I can appreciate the statement shoe regardless.
For her first Grammys, Sabrina Carpenter certainly made multiple appearances. On the red carpet, she wore a dress by Jonathan Anderson. The baby blue color and satin fabric were perfectly in line with her brand. This was one of my favorite looks from the night, though I still don’t understand how the halter top stayed up. The outfit lives up to her song, “Diamonds are Forever,” as we see them in her earrings, her dress and her jewelry, bringing that classic elegance that marks her “Short ‘n Sweet” era. The hair is well-done and compliments her dress, but it wasn’t my favorite, as I found that it aged her slightly. Her usual makeup, however, done by Carolina Gonzalez, was once again stunning.
Chappell Roan’s outfits for the night were, as always, uniquely Chappell Roan. The entire ensemble was very Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, with a baby blue and yellow color scheme. The Jean-Paul Gaultier dress had images from Edgar Degas’s paintings and it feels vaguely like a fever dream. The headpiece simply reminds me of a mop and I wish the makeup followed the blue and yellow color scheme instead of introducing purple. Also, the sleeves look slightly ill-fitting. Regardless, it’s an extremely fun outfit and the boots bring the quirkiness of it all together.
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy went up together when Beyoncé accepted the Album of the Year award. Blue Ivy, at 13 years old, completely outdid her mother. Her indigo blue dress is beautiful, her nails are done to match and her necklace is a perfect length, without being too mature. Her braids look gorgeous, along with her makeup. She looks like she’s about to go to prom and nothing feels inappropriate for someone of her age and status.
Beyonce’s dress was a little more detailed, with a sequined dress with white detailing and gloves to match. I didn’t quite like the pattern of her Schiaparelli dress and found that the bodice didn’t fit her well in a way that was distracting. Her makeup and earrings were gorgeous and simple.
